Elavon Launches Enhanced Connectivity Solution

Global payment solutions provider Elavon, a subsidiary of US Bancorp, is to provide enhanced connectivity for its general packet radio service (GPRS) mobile point-of-sale (POS) in its core European markets, under a joint initiative with KPN, the Netherlands-based telecommunications and information and communication technology (ICT) service provider.

The KPN machine to machine subscriber identity module (M2M SIM) connects Elavon mobile terminals to the best available GPRS network for maximum efficiency and performance. This solution offers choice and availability in terms of carriers and permits the use of mobile terminals in transit. The current setup already covers 32 countries across Europe and delivers the traffic directly into Elavon’s datacentre by using KPN international virtual private network (VPN) portfolio. Terminals connect to the network with the best coverage in a particular area, ensuring customers have the best possible opportunity to obtain coverage for their payment processing needs, wherever they want to do business.

“Elavon is always searching for ways to make commerce easier for our customers and this solution allows businesses to process transactions more easily and efficiently in a mobile environment,” said David Munn, vice president global POS solutions, Elavon. “This new solution is a natural extension to how we support our existing mobile payments infrastructure, and positions Elavon strongly as we continue to innovate in the mobile space.”
