MasterCard Names Ed McLaughlin as Chief Emerging Payments Officer

MasterCard Worldwide has appointed Ed McLaughlin as chief emerging payments officer. McLaughlin will be responsible for leading the development and commercialisation of payment product platforms and solutions around the globe that create a sustainable competitive advantage for MasterCard and its customers. Emerging payments consists of MasterCard’s products and solutions in the areas of e-commerce, mobile, person-to-person (P2P), PayPass/Transit, inControl, bill payment, Chip, and the Mobile Payment Solutions joint venture. McLaughlin replaces Josh Peirez, who has elected to pursue an opportunity outside of MasterCard.

McLaughlin, who was group executive for MasterCard’s franchise development group, joined MasterCard in 2005 as group head, bill payment and healthcare. Prior to MasterCard, he served as group vice president, product and strategy at Metavante, a financial services technology company. McLaughlin joined Metavante in 2002 through its acquisition of Paytrust, an online payments company where he served as a co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO). Prior to co-founding Paytrust, McLaughlin was executive vice president at LogicWorks, a data modelling software company.
